Thank you everyone! Sara, I used gel colors mixed with white color and a little vodka/water mix. Vlcakes, you SHOULD try it! It was so much fun!

I am planning on trying this for my sister's birthday cake...I too have never done this technique but after seeing how great your cake looks I am excited. Anything you discovered that you would do differently next time? Please share...

Great, Mockther! I really took my time with this one, mixing the colors and testing them on a scrap piece of fondant. I'm not sure that I would do anything differently, though I did use a bit too much of the vodka/water mix for the tan color, so next time I guess I would be a little more careful with that. I used the tips and instructions from the Craftsy class. It's free and if you have a chance to watch it, it is really helpful. Erin, from Three Little Blackbirds cakes is the instructor. I hope that helps! Can't wait to see your cake!

You did an AWESOME job. I'm thinking of doing this as a project and then offering it as a design choice to my clients. I know this took quite a bit of time to complete. But the outcome was FABULOUS!!!!!!!
