juleebug- There are a couple tutorials out there with seemingly "great" ways to adhere the sprinkles, but they didn't work for me :/ I just used a crusting buttercream, and as quickly as I could I just dumped sprinkles in very small areas at a time while pressing them gently in to the buttercream with my hand. Wasn't a quick method by any means, but it was the only way I could get them on there! I will try ganache underneath next time to see if it works out better and quicker! The crusting buttercream held the sprinkles on really well though, so I didn't have any issues with losing sprinkles all over the place during delivery and what not.
I love this concept!!!! Did you put your cake in the refrigerator after the sprinkle were on the cake...dou you think the candy could melt when the cake is taking out of the frige? Again, great job!!!
LondonLass- the tiers are 8", 6", and 4". lesucreaufour- I did put the cake in the fridge with the sprinkles on overnight. The fondant bands were also on the cake in the fridge overnight. I was more nervous about the bows being in the fridge, so I added them right before I gave my friend the cake in the morning. Everything stayed picture perfect...no melting, no colors bleeding, etc. I even asked her this morning if the leftovers have had any bleeding or other issues, and she said they've been in and out of the fridge and they still look totally perfect.
