In community album: Children's Birthday Cakes
I made this for a little boy, turning one! He was celebrating his birthday at Gymboree, so his Mom wanted something colorful! Both cakes are covered with rainbow sprinkles, then I made the #1's out of ghirardelli white melting bars that I dyed to match the stand, etc.. Photo by Kevin Paul Photography

If I ever manage to make a level cake that doesn't go wonky on me, that's the first one I'm gonna do. Those have to be some of the happiest cakes on the planet. :)

Kimmisue, this cake was one of the funnest cakes I have created. I can't wait to make one with different shades of sprinkles, etc.. :0)

I love this! So cute! I always seem to have issues getting sprinkles on the sides of cakes....any tips??

Hi HannahsMomi. I smooth with hot water, so I got the cake icing smooth, then put it in the fridge for a bit to dry a little. While it was still moist, I sat it on a baking tray and then took handfuls of sprinkles and going from the bottom up, I patted the sprinkles on. I went around doing this, and then I went in and filled in empty spots. I hope this helps! Thank you for your kind words!

Sprinkles are my favorite. I want a piece of that!

Love it! Great backdrop colour, too! I always end up with the most ghetto photos, I need to learn how to figure out a backdrop like this :)

Thank you AnnieCahill, and Viks. Viks, this was just wrapping paper that I got at Target for the backdrop. My dh is a pro-tog so we keep a space set up for shooting the cakes. He uses a softbox for the lighting and such. If it weren't for him, my pictures would probably be with my cell phone and instagram! :)

Love it! I want a bigger piece than AnnieCahill :) How did you get your numbers to match the cake stand so well?

HI newbaker55! I dyed it to match! I always like dying my own for some reason! :) Thank you so much for your sweet words!
