I was asked to create a cake for a local bridal magazine. The wedding planner I worked with wanted something in blush, and she used touches of gold throughout the shoot. So I decided to use the Lazarro gown as inspiration. I covered the top and bottom tier with fondant that I dyed a blush shade. I then made spiral ruffle blossoms to mimic the gown, and placed those around the bottom tier. The top tier I made a collar at the base, and then placed Swarovski jewel pendants around the top. The middle tier I hand brushed with gold highlighter dust. Everyone who has seen the cake wants to know where I got the stand, and I found that on Ebay! :)

Thank you bakedincakedout, gat-o, and ButRCream. I really love this color combo. The dress that I based it off was the same color of blush and it was so gorgeous in person.

I would love to know your technique on brushing the gold onto the cake...I don't see any brush strokes! It looks airbrushed!
    DonnaOK 1/3/13 at 8:58am
Hi MarisParis, I actually use shortening on my table before rolling my fondant out. This left a little bit of a sticky surface and then I took a foam brush from Hobby Lobby and I dry brushed it on. I don't own an airbrush, and I didn't want drips or streaks (or clumps with my luck :) ) from painting it on. So I brushed it all on, then I went back over and brushed it repeatedly to make sure there weren't any streaks (in the same direction). I did the same thing with the cake in my avatar on the blue tier.

Absolutely gorgeous!!! You are truely talented. Would you mind sharing how you made the spiral ruffles?
    DonnaOK 1/4/13 at 5:22am
Thank you cakefat, JWinslow, and Javajammer. Javajammer, I started with a long strip of fondant about a half an inch wide. I then took my baller tool and over a piece of foam, ruffled one edge of the strip. On the flat end, I painted on a thin strip of water. I then started by rolling one end and making a center. I pressed it down and then carefully wrapped the piece of fondant around the center and flattened it as I went. Each time I wrapped, I layered it behind the first layer, so that it would make a large piece. I dried it for a bit, and then backed it with royal to add to the cake!
