This is a variation of the Winter BirthdayLand cake...I'm a Hobbit fan and am eagerly awaiting its premiere. So I made Santa/Gandalf, Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshild figures to go with the Bag End Hobbit House architecture,,,for me! Again, a huge nod to anxeli for her inspiration and help. I used battery operated LED lights, postitioned behind the rice paper window panes. The battery pack is in the back of the cake. Trying to figure out a better way. Tea lights aren't it tho...tried that. Not enough light!

yeah the lights were a pita but I cant think of another way either, I shoved the battery packs under the cake board. i also had a light I had to cover with fondant behind a tree but it actually looked cool like when outdoor lights get covered in snow and glow from underneath.

How did you do the trees?
    meemawof10 12/3/12 at 8:04am
I did the large one as per anxelis directed on her tutorial http://www.flickr.com/photos/31289853@N08/sets/72157623239872554/... I used a styro cone cut down to scale, covered it in green fondant, stuck floral wire pieces in...longer ones on bottom, the squished fonadat around each wire. Huge pain! Then I cut snowflakes out with my scrapping punch, rolling the fondant out real thing, letting it dry a few minutes then punched them out. Glued onto each branch w/royal,piped white royal on branches using a brush to get it right where I wanted it. The smaller ones are the same but smaller and no wires. Not sure I'm crazy about them tho. Stuck a tube of fondant around in 4 different heights and glued the snowflakes on top of each level. Doesn that make sense?
