This was my entry for the Mid-Atlantic Wedding Cake Competiton. First time competing! I've been only doing cakes for a year as a hobby and havent taken any classes as of yet.

I came in 8th place out of 35 which isnt too bad for my first time. I won out to Kim Morrison who is a veteran contest winner of the OK show.

this cake is wonderful. i love the contrast of the blue & white with the punch of colours. best of luck to you!

You use a stencil and use a thinned royal icing and smear it over the stencil. Then you use a scraper and remove the excess icing. The hardest part is trying to keep it still while you do this. Nick Lodge created them and you can get them either from his website or at Designer Stencils. He also has the striped pattern.

Your work is outstanding! I can't believe that after a year of being self taught you have completed work of this caliber! You are truly gifted and a talent!
