Calla Lily Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my dear friend's birthday. My first gumpaste calla lilies. I got the idea from sweetpassion' wonderful cakes! Six inch Chocolate Cake with Caramel filling.

I rolled gumpaste out very thin, then used a heart shaped cookie cutter. There are actual calla lily cutters available, but I don't have one... yet!... so I had to improvise! Thanks :)

Yes. It's basically a gumpaste log on a wire. I then brushed on a mixture of meringue powder and water (equal amounts) to glue on the cornmeal, Thanks for all of your comments!

Awesome! Tell me about the fondant, do you just lay different colours beside each other & roll them out together?

Yes. That's what I did with the fondant. Although, I think making thinner stripes of the colors would have looked nicer. At some points, the stripes started separating, you can see it between the yellow pink, so I wonder if moistening the fondant slightly would have helped. Take a look at sweetpassion's cake. It's simply stunning! :)
