I started with the roses in the middle on a mound of frosting to make them higher, then I added the roses around the edge and then filled in the middle. I found I had to do some half roses and buds in some places.
The roses are a combination of Aster Mauve and pink, I just added more of the mauve for the darker roses. Piped the light roses first and then added the darker shade to the same bag so I got the varigated shade.
Thanks for all your kind comments, they're very encouraging because I'm just starting out. Regarding the buttercream recipe it's as follows - 1 cup solid vegetable shortening, 1lb confectioners sugar, 1tsp vanilla essence, 1/2 tsp flavoring (I used coconut) 2Tbsp water. Needs to be a stiff consistency for the roses.
This cake looks great! When you put the roses on...did you put the outside on first or start with the inside? I want to make this cake for my grandmother's b-day.
