Yes, they are outlined. I do it two ways-if it is a cookie that will have a single, solid colored background (such as the basketball and baseball) I use a consistency between medium and stiff glaze to outline and then immediately flood the cookie, so the outline and flood area "melt" together. If it is a cookie with multiple back ground colors, like the soccer ball or a marbelled type cookie I will outline with stiff consistency glaze, then go back later and fill in (outline will be slightly noticeab...
Also, I do the soccer ball cookies a little different now than when this photo was taken. I use a hexagon cookie cutter to mark small dots with a food writer on the cookie of where the corners of the center black area should be, then outline. Cookie looks much more even that way. Also, no longer use royal icing for details unless they need to have definite dimesion-now use thick glaze for lines and such added later (like on these cookies).

How did you get the edges so perfect? Did you pipe a border with the glaze first?

I ran out of room to type my response-meant to add that when I go back later to fill in, I use medium consistency glaze.
