This is a dairy free chocolate cake with dairy free buttercream. Struggled a bit with the cake being soft along with the buttercream, couldn't get sharp edges, any advice on this would be appreciated.
Don't know what you chose to use for the dairy replacement. But I would think the best way to firm the cake would be to wrap in plastic wrap and freeze until firm. Let thaw in wrap then get crumb coat on and chill, then final icing and chill. While still cold smooth and perhaps dab gently with paper towel to whisk away the water droplets, then before it is fully warmed up place fondant on. Can't hurt to try :)
Hi I used pure margarine to replace the butter but it was so soft I couldn't get a sharp edge, I did chill as much as possible but it was hardly out of the fridge for an time at all and the fondant wanted to move around. Thank you for your comment. The chap who received this cake loved it, I must say there is very few minecraft cakes around at the moment considering there is so many children who are members.
