Dear flower7779...A good american buttercream is Butter(room temp) powdered sugar (sifted) vanilla extract...and alittle milk or cream...The secret is wipping your butter and alittle (Sifted) powdered sugar to a creamy consistentcy..Mix to tast add powdered sugar and a little milk or Cream (1 tbs at a time) to make creamier to tast..not to much it can make it to sweet...Also use the open star tip...start piping in the middle of the rose and then pip it in the circle..(you can also look on YouTube for demonstrations...good luck!
