Thank you! The the side swept technique was pretty easy. I took a ruler, and slanted it against the cake, and traced the edge of the ruler with a small plastic rotary fondant cutter just where there was a nice impression. Once I got all the slanted lines on the cake, I went around free hand with the rotary cutter and make the lines deeper, and extended the lines up higher on the cake.
