In community album: Military / Police / Fire Dept.
My husband is the Captain of the local volunteer fire station and I was asked to make a cake of the fire station for their presentation dinner. I measured the buildings to get proportions. Everything is made out of fondant and cake except the wire hose rack, flag pole, acrylic back veranda and antenna. They wanted it to be an exact replica - so I even made the rubbish bins and concrete. The mural on the side is an edible image (much easier than hand painting it). The cake was chocolate mud cake. It was very well received by the guests and very recognisable. Like they said, anyone can have a fire truck cake, but only they could have a Keysborough Fire Station cake. It took about 14 hours to make it.
