The original plan for this cake was to have butter cream all over. However, the wedding was an outdoor wedding and the forecast was to be hot and humid. I didn't want the butter cream to melt into a puddle on the cake table, so I made a gum paste/fondant mix and wrapped that around the cake and painted it with a paintbrush to give the tree bark effect. The flowers are all gum paste.
