Puppy On A Pillow Birthday Cake

Puppy On A Pillow Birthday Cake on Cake Central

I made this cake for my daughter's 11th birthday this weekend. The pillow was made following the tutorial for how to make a pillow cake on this site. However, I started with a two layer, 10" square cake. I didn't freeze the cake though, and it still carved just fine. Pillow was covered with rolled buttercream, which is my first time trying it. The puppy was made from cupcakes, and then all was stuck together using buttercream. Thanks to infields, as I worked from her Maltese cake for inspiration.

Thanks for the comments! No instructions--I just kept putting together cupcakes until I had the shape, and then I buttercreamed it all together. HTHs

I've never heard of rolled butter cream. Can you give us the recipe. The cake is smashing. Did you have to dowel rod the cupcakes in place especially the head so it didn't fall over? I have to save this in my Favorite. [email protected]

The rolled butter cream recipe is from the recipe section here. I didn't dowel the cupcakes, just buttercream holding them all together.
