That is a gorgeous cake! I would also like to know how you made the butterflies. They are beautiful.

The butterflies are very easy to do, just preform the wings with wire (white, the one that is wrapped) using a pattern, draw the pattern in a piece of paper and bend and twist the wire formimg a loop, like making loops for soap bubbles.. when you have al the wires ready, take 1 part of knox and 3 parts of water, heat on the microwave for 10 13 sec, stir a little and add gel color if you like, very slowly dip the loops in the mixture (again like making soap bubbles) and put on a piece of foam to dry

Very pretty and unusual butterflies! What is knox? is it regular unflavored gelatin powder? Where can I find white wrapped wire? Can't it be exchanged with florist wire? Thanks.
Claudine1976 3/22/07 at 9:14am
Thanks! the white wire is florist wire but white, course it can be exchanged for the green one but not sure about the color, but it will work. Knox is the brand for the gelatin, regular non flavored white gelatin powder...

Hi Claudine. Just a quick question. How sturdy are these butterflies? Do they pop easily like soap bubbles do? Thanks, Laura
Claudine1976 3/30/07 at 10:34pm
Hi! When you take them out of the gelatin they are just like soap, but after a few second the dry and are a little bit more sturdy, then you can bend and shape a bit the wires.

very cute. could you use the flavored gelatin as well?

What a unique idea for the butterflies! Reminds me of this craft kit I had when I was a teen in the 70's where you too a wire and dipped it in something to come up with this look, it wasn't soap though, some kind of thin plastic??
