The design is all fondant: white mixed with some black but not completely otherwise it would be just grey without the 'veining'. Then roll it out, cut the shape you like, roll out the black/white one and place it on the top. Roll both together to get the same thickness and cover the cake. I actually started from the middle tier, it's easier to continue with the design on remaining tiers.
