Just finished this for a friend. Was very nervous about the chevron pattern but I think it turned out pretty well. First time doing the rose petal ruffles too and love how they turned out! I love the color scheme and wish that style was around when I got married! :)

Beautiful!! Would you share your chevron pattern technique?
misterc 8/10/12 at 8:28pm
I'll try to explain the technique here but I should have taken pictures. Find a chevron pattern you like online and print several out. Cut the pattern and tape pieces together to get the length you need to go around cake. Lay two pieces of wax paper out the same length as the diameter of your cake and lightly crisco them (Crisco is the key- don't skip this step otherwise your patterns will just slide off when you are lifting them!). Next roll your fondant out the same length as your cake diameter on one ...

piece of wax paper. Lay your pattern on top of fondant and cut with exacto knife. peel excess fondant away and then carefully flip wax paper on top of your other criscoed sheet of wax paper. Gently peel wax paper off. Now you have one long chevron on wax paper. Repeat as many times as you want, I did three. Once you have all your chevrons on wax paper make sure they are positioned well. Place prepared cake in front of wax paper on counter. Lift the ends of wax paper up and let the center touch back side...

Beautiful! Are they individual rose petals???

of cake and smooth around sides. Gently peel off wax paper. You should now be left with a clean continuous chevron pattern on your cake, only one seam not stretched or misshapen from placement. Hope that all made sense!

Yes they are individual petals.

Beautiful Job! What color did you use to get the gray?
misterc 8/10/12 at 9:42pm
Just white fondant mixed with black americolor gel.

Fantastic choice of colors. My fingers just ache at the thought of ruffling all those petals as I've done one too and love the look. Very time consuming and people wonder why these cakes cost SO much.lol

Beautiful work. Can you please talk more about your petals? I am enthralled with them. Thanks
misterc 8/11/12 at 4:30am
I just ruffled the petals with a ball tool and then attached them to the cake while the frosting was still wet. They do overlap but just a bit so each petal is actually touching the cake.
