Here's the fourth display cake I made for the upcoming bridal show. I had never done the petal technique before - so easy and yet so time consuming! :) I made the flowers out of gumpaste. Thanks for looking!!

Did you use butter cream, and did you do the petal work after you stack them? Your technique is flawless i wish you would do a tutorial.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments!! Pinar: I used royal icing for this because it is a cake dummy to take to a bridal show. For a real cake, I would use buttercream. The technique is very simple to do. If this were a real cake, I would crumb coat and then ice the tops in buttercream like normal. I would then stack the cakes - again, like normal. I would then do the side designs. Use a tip 12 round tip. Make a vertical row of dots (I used 5) starting at the top edge and ending at the bottom e...

Beautiful! What size are your dummies?
weavebee1 8/2/12 at 5:33pm
LadyDiana: I believe I used 5", 7", 9" and 12" - just round sizes I had on hand. :)

This is a beautiful cake. I hope it brings you good luck at your bridal show. Nicely done!

Thank you so much for explaining me the process. I will experiment a little at home to see if I can make it. Some people just can't stand fondant and this is a very elegant alternative.

Beautiful! I haven't tried the petal technique because I can't figure out how to end final rows...can you give me a tip?
weavebee1 8/10/12 at 4:02am
Vrhg1958: wish I had a easy answer as I ran into the same problem. For the last row, I was very very careful not to pull into the first row. I then took a small paint brush and smoothed the icing into place. I could still see a "seam" but it looked much better and not very noticeable this way. Hope that helps! Thanks for looking!!
