In community album: Birthday Cakes
This is a super hero themed birthday cake that I made for my friend's son's 4th birthday. He LOVED it and cried when it was cut! I offered him up an edible building to ease the heartache. The black buildings were made with fondant, the gray buildings were made with black fondant and white gumpaste. Windows are fondant, as well. The sound effect bubbles are also made with fondant. They are double layered, so the "Steven" bubble was extra heavy because it was so big and I had a hard time getting it to stick to the side of the cake. I finally had to use both frosting and piping gel to get it to stick. Captain America's shield was also made of fondant, as was the Batman sign. My friend wanted me to combine Captain America, Batman and the Hulk, so I covered the cake in green fondant to represent the Hulk. Next time I would do blue buttercream dots around the bottom edge of the cake, instead of grey, to tie in the blues on the top and sides of cake. But overall I'm happy with how it turned out and the kids loved it!
