In community album: Baby Shower
Chevron cakes are in! Such a simple design, but the wow factor is there. This one was actually done as a non-traditional baby shower cake in the nursery colors. I made it a double barrel, 8" white chocolate cake with strawberry filling, and white chocolate ganache under the fondant. Even though the design is simple, it turned out that it was very time consuming cutting each stripe with angled ends, and getting them positioned right on the cake. I still had to rim some of the ends as I went...really precision work. The flower is a gumpaste peony made with a center to match the navy and lime colors of the cake.

Thanks for all the compliments! To answer your questions...the green spirals were floral wire wrapped in floral tape, but they could just as easily be made using gumpaste. I made patterns of my angled strips that I lay over long strips of fondant and cut each one individually. To do that I first measured around the entire cake so I would know how to divide it up and got a sheet of freezer paper to make my plans. I drew off two long horizontal lines about 1 1/2 in apart and as long as the cake circum...
