I made this cake for my son's 13th birthday. He'd received a pair of custom leather Converse and I thought it would be fun to try and recreate them (or one of them)!

Betty Crocker carrot cake, cream cheese frosting, all held together with white chocolate ganache.

The leather texture was a complete fluke. I think it was just because I had to add so much navy and black Americolor to my blue FondX fondant that it was really soft and sticky. Adding tylose to it made it even weirder. I put the cake in the freezer for a few minutes once all the blue panels were on to firm up the ganache before the next stage and when it dried out it had the leather texture. Magic!
