For smoothing the cake I used Sharon Zambitos method, minus the viva paper towel part, and i would love to take credit for making buttercream look like glass, but it is very humid out and the cake just came out of refridgeration so it is sweating a little! Thank you!
I do not use Sharon's recipe for icing. The cost of the high ratio shortening isn't justified by the small number of cakes that I make. I found the gemstone ribbon on Amazon. It is not the easiest or cheapest stuff to get your hands on!
