Thanks for all the compliments!! I just found the source for the original design of this cake (which I found on Pinterest) and it is wildorchid here on cake central so I wanted to make sure s/he gets the credit. As for the layers, I am sure there has to be an easier way than what I did. I made 18 cakes (6 colors per layer) and ended up throwing away what I did not use which was a huge waste. I made this for my daughter's birthday and I do not sell cakes so I am sure there was a smarter way to make it!
This looks awesome! I can't believe you don't bake for a living. You are certainly talented! One way of doing it could be to bake cake in jelly pans and using cake cutters for the different sizes (i.e. 6", 8", 10"). This might reduce the waste. You can always use the left over cake for cake pops. Depending on the cake flavor, I use a 3:1 ratio of cake and frosting. If it's very moist such as almond cake, I use half of the frosting, if at all. Hope this helps!
