Beautiful colors.....you did a great job!!! Would you share how you made the pom poms?
cwelling 5/21/12 at 8:52pm
ladij153- I used the tutorial on SophieBifieldCakeCompany's Facebook page. She has the link on her CakeCentral profile. They are super easy!

How did you attach the pom poms to the cake?
cwelling 5/22/12 at 1:11pm
Melanie2010-This was my first time attaching things to a cake like this, so I really didn't know what I was doing haha. I just used wooden skewers, maybe about 4" long, but they needed to be much longer (and maybe thicker, too). The larger poms were really heavy, so they started pulling out of the cake after a while. I'd definitely love suggestions myself for how to better attach the poms to the cake haha.

I think in Sophie's tutorial she mentions placing toothpicks for support and placing it in the base before it has time to dry. Hope that helps :D
cwelling 5/22/12 at 2:22pm
Yeah I put the skewers in the poms before the base was dry and let the gumpaste harden around the skewers...there was no problem with the skewers staying in the poms, it was just getting the poms to not pull out of the cake due to gravity on the heavy pom that was the tricky part :)

Beautiful Cake!! You could also try using gum paste made into the edible glue to hold on Pom Poms>

Really pretty cake! Well done! Can u tell me what colours u used, I've been looking for that shade for a while and can't seem to get it right.
cwelling 5/24/12 at 1:51am
Mags4girls- I just used the Americolor TEAL gel color straight from the bottle. It was perfect for my needs, so I didn't tweak it at all. It did require a lot of gel though to get that darker color!
