In: Yellow Tree Peony in album: Anniversary
This is my first peony flower, modeled after a beautiful tree peony. I put it on the top of an anniversary cake for a local cake decorating competition. The cake itself is decorated with a hand-pressed quartrefoil design around the bottom and top tiers and hand-cut quartrefoil pieces on the middle tier.

Beautiful! How did you make this? It's so pretty!
kmstreepey 4/23/12 at 10:19am
Thank you, Gerle! I kind of improvised with this, since I don't have a peony cutter or veiner. I made two different tear-shaped cutters by bending two round cutters so there was a point at one side. I then used them to cut out the petals of the peony, smaller ones on the inside over a smallish ball of fondant (around 1-inch diameter). I made little cuts to the upper edge of each petal with my exacto knife, then used a knife tool to "vein" the petals. I then thinned and ruffled the edges with a ball ...

You did a beautiful job on this flower as well as the whole cake....would you be willing to share where you got the quatrefoil quilter? I've been looking for one myself....
kmstreepey 4/24/12 at 4:34pm
Thanks, Ladij! I actually used an frill cutter to make the imprint. It's a Jem (I think) that came in a set. (Here is a link to a pic, if they let it go through. It's the one at the top. (...) I just turned it around every time so that the points of the design came together. It's not exactly a quartrefoil, but pretty close.

Looks like it got cut out. Here it is again, just get rid of the spaces. http://www. country kitchen sa. com/ shop/ cake-decorating-supplies (...)

Okay, try this. It's the one to the left. (...)

One last try, just do a search for frill cutters, FMM or Jem Straight Frills Set 1-4.

Very nice. the petals are wonderfully thin and delicate. This is your first peony? Can't wait until you make a few more. I know you will enjoy your own progress. Well done!

Thank you, JWinslow!
