Victorian Elegance

Well, this is still a cake in progress. I finally got the two bottom tiers done. The flowers I placed on the bottom tier are not complete, but I wanted to get a pic up so that you can see how far I have gotten. The flowers are added because I have a nice big thumb print and fingernail marks exactly where I placed the flowers. They weren't part of the plan, because I HATE making gum paste flowers with a passion. Anyway, you get the drift of what I am trying to accomplish here and hopefully it will stay nice for our September cake show. You asked what I had used to make it so shiny and pearly. There is a line of premixed colors that are made specifically for airbrushing and the ones that I used were made by Americolor, and the color I used all over the cake was Pearl Sheen. I also used pink sheen on the 3rd tier down before adding that tier to the 4th tier, but I don't think I actually had to use it, because when I did the 4th tier, I went up around the pink tier with the pearl color and it didn't seem to distort the pink sheen. I had used pink fondant on that tier anyway, so I think I could have just used the pearl on all of it and the pink still would have been pink that had been pearlized. There are so many colors in this box that I bought, you would not believe, and they all have a pearl sheen to them. No mixing, just use right out of the bottle. I love them! Well, I see my links didn't show up in a thread. Here is the link to the originator of the second tier technique: http://www.susantrianoscakes.com/tufted-billow-weave-dvd/.
