so cute - how did you do the moon on the top? i love the marbled effect on the base cake!
lauracox79 3/1/06 at 5:42am
I bought the cake board, little bit more expensive, but worth it!! The moon is made from a pudding basin. I rolled the icing a little thicker than normal to cover the moon, then using my thumb and finger, gently pinched together the icing to form craters. All I did then was cut out circles from black icing and place into the craters. The other little craters were done with a ball tool, you could use the end of a paint brush though!

This cake is fantastic! I absolutely love it and can't imagine how creative you must be to figure out the craters!

I would love to make this cake for my son!! What size cake pans did you use for the earth and the moon on top?
lindven21 9/15/06 at 10:29am
i am also wondering about the cake pans you used? is the icing a wilton fondant or homemade?
lauracox79 9/25/06 at 9:09am
I used a 10 inch round for the bottom, and a 2lb pudding basin for the top. I used fondant icing which i buy from the local supermarket here in England, I then just coloured it myself using sugarflair pastes.
