I bought the cake board, little bit more expensive, but worth it!! The moon is made from a pudding basin. I rolled the icing a little thicker than normal to cover the moon, then using my thumb and finger, gently pinched together the icing to form craters. All I did then was cut out circles from black icing and place into the craters. The other little craters were done with a ball tool, you could use the end of a paint brush though!
I used a 10 inch round for the bottom, and a 2lb pudding basin for the top. I used fondant icing which i buy from the local supermarket here in England, I then just coloured it myself using sugarflair pastes.
