This cake was for my nephew - he wanted a drum & Gene Simmons, and this is what I came up with. Gene is all fondant, with the exception of his tongue....it a mix of marzipan and fondant. :) Fun to make!!

Thank you all so much!! Believe it or not, I just used dark gray fondant for his hair. Then I used one of my gum paste tools (the one that looks like a pointed hook) and gauged and pulled at the fondant to get the right texture. Then I painted mildly diluted black gel color over all of the hair so that it would have dimension. Hope that helps :)

This cake is superb! My SIL is dying for a cake that's the head of the KISS member whose face is painted like a cat's. You've inspired me to strive for something a lot better than I was planning on! Thanks for the tip about the hair. I was also wondering how you did that. Great job!

By far the best Kiss cake I have ever seen. I was planning on doing a Kiss cake for my fiance's birthday in two days but mine will pale in comparison to your awesome cake!! Please elaborate on how you did the face. I know you said it was fondant but what did you use to form it/mold it? great job! I can't wait to get your reply :)

@lilacs - thank you so much for your wonderful comment & compliment! I really do appreciate your kind words :) about Gene's head - I sat myself down in front of my laptop & looked at as big a picture as I could find of him as I made the head. I made sort of an upside down egg shape with the fondant & used my gum paste tools to shape him out. The one that sort of looks like a hook helped mr the most. I pushed in where I wanted his eyes to go & added a little more white fondant to get the nose right. Then ...
