I wanted to try my hand at the sotas. I had a cake like this in mind and when I saw sue_dye's cake, I decided to give it a try. Her cake came out beautiful. I know next time to thin down my icing a bit.

This is beautiful! I have never done sotas but it looks like it takes a painstakingly long time to do. Did you have to tilt your cake to do the sides?

Thanks so much... The sotas would probably be easier to make if your icing is the right consistency. It really didn't take that long. It was actually fun. I had no way to tilt the cake so I just did the sides the best I could.

I wonder if you could thin them with corn syrup to make it easier. They say that's how to thin icing for writing and for stringwork.

Steady2Hands, Good idea. I think that is what I'm going to do if I have an occasion to do sotas again. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
