Lambeth Gondola Cake 1964
Here is the Lambeth cake from the class I took from Edith Gates in 1964. The one that had 3,000 apple blossoms done with a 101s rose tip, petal by petal. No drop flowers allowed in this class. The gondola is a sugar mold covered in royal icing apple blossoms, the end pieces are run sugar or what today might be called flow in or flood work.
Holy moly Shirley!! That is one awesome piece of cake work!! It's beautiful!!
Thank you Rayven, glad you liked it.
Amazing!
Oh, my goodness, it looks like it is made of lace! It is beautiful, but I don't think I'd ever be able to do that!
What a stunning cake. Oh, and all the work you put into it. Fabulous!
Oh to be able to take a class like that now........BEAUTIFUL
Thank you. It was a lovely cake, all white with just the pink apple blossoms.
This cake is absolutely beautiful. You did a wonderful job. I can't imagine that many flowers!
I'm in awe!!!!No words to express my amazement !!! Imagine it in color!
Wow, this is absolutely amazing and soooo beautiful! It's just so incredible! Fantastic work!
Thank you, it was an achievement to complete this cake by the end of the 5 day class
Well the first thing that popped into my head was holy ........ what a beautiful, complicated, time consuming, incredible cake!!
Thank you. His method of over piping is labor intensive, but the results are awfully pretty. And I was only 25 at that time so I had a lot more stamina then.
Wow! It is incredible! How could you ever let anyone cut it after all that work?!
Thank you. Well it was a styrofoam dummy so no one cut into it.
Wow! I love the Lambeth method/technique. What tip did you use for the stringwork on the side -- 00? and was it royal icing or bc?
It is all royal icing and actually the stringwork was done with a #2 tip.
That is so amazing that you put all the time and effort into making that cake..... especially with out fondant.
Thanks. I don't think anyone was using fondant in the U.S. in 1964
It's beautiful Shirley! I love the over piping method. And you do it so beautifully! I am determined to learn this.

I can't speak in the presence of perfection............
  Thank you!
Oh my!!! :o Dang... 8O You get life time bragging rights for this one... OMG...You most certainly should be proud!!! :D It truly is a work of art... ;-D
Thank you so much. :)
Wow, my jaw dropped upon seeing this one! Did you have this cake cryogenically frozen to preserve it? Such a work of art should last forever - that's above and beyond....!!
It was a styrofoam dummy done with all royal icing so it didn't hold up for too long, I eventually tossed it but I hated to.
