Armadillo Cake

My original plan was to make him stand up on all 4 feet, but then I realized that they really wanted the Road Kill version instead, so I used the rice cereal parts that were already done and just did a little rearranging. Of coarse, the cake is red velvet and I used chocolate icing. The body was made by cutting in half and stacking a 14 inch square. The carving was relatively simple on this one. The facial details and the lower part of the feet were done with gum paste and the rest of the covering was done with white fondant. Most of the texture was applied using a small, sort of, square measuring spoon. Some hand painting was done, but most of the color was added with an air brush. I had a lot of fun with this, especially taking the pictures. I wouldn't normally photograph a cake behind a car or in the middle of the street, but it seemed appropriate for this one.

Thank you SO much for the detailed pictures!  This is amazing.  I had a bride request a one as a groom's cake.  Your pics made it easy.  Mine didn't come out as detailed as yours, but it was fun to do.  Thank you!
