I LOVED making the basket... this was my first and I have a few improvements planned for my next basket cake!! The apples are shiny by painting them with a butter flavoring. They will stay this shiny for about 6 hours, then start to dull.

Thanks everyone for your comments. The basket sides are 'boards' made with gumpaste and fondant mixture, with indentations to look like wood and painted with food coloring mixed with food flavoring. There is a simple 8 inch round cake inside which helps hold them up all the way around. The apples are rice crispy cookies covered in fondant, and also painted with food coloring and flavoring. Now that I have an air brush, we would probably airbrush it now!
