I made this for my costume-birthday party. The ship and sails are gumpaste. I used toothpicks for the masts, but next time I think I would use skewers or maybe lollipop sticks, as the toothpicks were so short I had to stick two together with gumpaste to get the right height. The map is fondant painted with a food coloring gel/vodka mix.
