Congratulations!!!! I love it !!!! my nephew loves dragons and his birthday is coming up ....I would love to know how you made it !!!! What size cakes and pans and what did you use for the head!!!!
...except apparently I can't. Right : the head is a styrofoam ball with another styrofoam capsule shape glued to it ( for the snout) all covered in pretty thick fondant and worked to get a smooth surface.) I tried RKT as the support; but it just got too heavy).
The body is all cake (it started off as 6x 8 or 9 inch layers, although I carved the top one away to pretty much nothing) ... with a central dowel running up thorugh the middle . Because this cake wasn't going far (just the diningroom!) I didn't put in any other supports, but I really should have. I don't usually go more than 3 or 4 layers without a cake board and short dowels or straws to support the layers above.)
The arms, feet and wings are CMC-stiffened fondant ...and is I had ot do it again, I'd exxagerate the "haunches" more so that he looked less like a giant green water droplet! .... oh, and obviously run the dowel higher than the cake so that you have something to impale the styrofoam ball onto.!
And finally, think of some way to mask the neck area where the head and body join ... hence my accountants's necktie (my DH suggested a silver studded dog collar) but I was already drawing little red spirals by then!)
