This was for my son's birthday. Cake was carved from an 11x15 sheet cake, and iced in buttercream, with fondant accents. The field was covered in green paper, then contact paper, then I did the lines with royal icing. The logos in the end zone were paper. The players are plastic figures. The cake survived the 20 minute to the venue fine, but the party people didn't listen to my request to hold the cake board from the bottom, and they laid it on top of a cart that was too small, and it flexed, and most of the lines broke. I had to redo them, then they did it again moving it to a different room! To top it all off, they then proceeded to drip wax from the candles all over the cake. Soooo frustrating! Thank goodness I had already taken pictures at home!

I made a pattern for it, then placed it on the cake and carved around it. Iced in buttercream, then placed the fondant pieces on top. Good luck!

Okay,I don't want to be a pest but how did you get the template that large?/Will I have to go to a Office Max and have them enlarge it. I need to do this cake this weekend for my BFF son.I would really appreciate the specifics! Thanks a bunch!

Last question??? How many kids/adults did it feed?
perfectcakebyshirley 4/24/12 at 5:50am
You could do that, but I just copied it at home on my printer, made it large and printed on several sheets, and taped them together. Whichever is easier for you!

This cake served about 25. I made the face part as large as would fit (about 11") then used pieces to complete the tail part.
