This cake was donated to the Woodbury (MN) Middle School for an event to celebrate their class getting THE top score in the state science exam. It's the eigth grade class and they study earth science... hence the volcano theme. The plan was to use the cake as the centerpiece on the refreshments table, serve sheet cakes, have a drawing to decide who would take home the volcano. In the end, the kids didn't want to let it go, and they decided to save it for themselves to eat later. They sent me a great photo of them with the cake :) It was a 10 inch durable chocolate cake with ganache and choc buttercream filling and icing. Covered and decorated with MFF. The volcano was shaped from the quarter section removed from the base. Thanks for looking!

great idea! I was looking for a "scientific" theme for my son's end of semester geology class. I like this one!
