In community album: Children's Birthday Cakes
Cupcakes baked in ice cream cones and decorated in decorator's icing.  Made these for my son's 8th birthday for a lunch time birthday party at his school for his class.  The teacher really loved this idea instead of the traditional cake or cupcakes - far less mess!

How did you get them to stand up? and didn't the cones burn. I have three birthday that these wouuld be great for I hope you don't mind!

Sorry I haven't replied, been away for awhile. I used the flat bottom cones and was just careful not to let them fall over. No, you don't have to worry about the cones burning or even browning too much. I've baked them wrapped in foil and without, they turn out fine either way but if you use foil (extra process!) you must remove the foil immediately or the cones will get mushy as they cool, ick! Have fun!

I have found that a good way to prevent them from tipping over when transporting them to school etc. is to use an oversized box that is deeper than the cones are tall and putting a slightly smaller box with holes cut out upside down inside the larger box....stand each cone inside the box and place a lid over the whole thing.

How cute! I may have to try this for my son's teacher's birthday coming up! But how do they not fall over while putting them in the oven???
