This is a treasure chest cake I made for a friend's son's 7th birthday party, pirate-themed. The entire box is cake, with a wooden infrastructure inside to keep the lid up. The "wood" is hand-painted fondant, the "sand" is crushed vanilla wafers, the map is gum paste, and the jewels inside are chocolate coins, ring pops, and plastic necklaces.
