This is my first attempt at making a gumpaste bow and a box cake. I have a wonderful time putting this together and learned a lot. Comments appreciated.
The bow is perfect. How did you do the texture on the borders of the bow?? Also how did you do the lid? I have to make a hatbox for the top of a wedding cake and im looking for ideas. I was just going to make it out of fondant and let it dry. Love the cake.
boonenati -- Thanks for your kind comments. I used a 8' round styrofoam for the lid instead of cake. I covered it with fondant -- that part was very easy. As for the bow, I used a small silicone pearl mold to make a string of pearls then attached them to strips of gumpaste. The real trick (I found) was to form the bow on a 3 inch gumpaste disk and "Glue" the individual loops together to form the bow with royal icing. The 3 inch disk helps it hold together stronger. I let my bow dry for 24 hrs. ...
