In community album: Children's Birthday Cakes
Emma couldn't decide which Disney princess was her favorite, so all were invited to the party at the pink castle. Since this is a friendly castle, there is no drawbridge over the piping gel moat--- rather, a welcome bridge.
The cake is WASC with strawberry buttercream, and strawberry MFF over white ganache. The towers are RKT topped with gumpaste slates. The trees and rosebushes are chocolate covered grape stems dipped into green rice krispies for leaves. Water lilies and roses are gumpaste, as is the birdbath filled with piping gel.
I had so much fun making this cake that I had to hold myself in check, not to over-do.
The client provided the figurines.

Such a pretty girlie cake. :) :) Very well done

Thank you all for your kind comments. I learned from the mother that the cake sort of became a "Barbie house". After the first layer was cut, the girls enjoyed playing princess and walking the figures over the remaining cake and crossing the bridge with them. I never anticipated this birthday cake would serve a dual purpose! It is things like that that make me smile.

Milkmaid, I already left you a comment but wanted to say that is so cute that the cake served two purposes :) I love castle cakes and yours is my favorite! thaks a lot for sharing how you made it :)

Cake Club: I think you did a really good job! I love the water effect, pebbles, and doors and windows on the castle. The texture on the castle is deep in some places and shallow in others. Yes, I think if you did one top tower that would have had a wider diameter it would bring more balance. But it is a great cake!

Cake Club: Yes, love it, too...one of the better castles I have seen from the kits! Great job...love the fountain and water/bridge, too!

Cake club comment: Love all the little details...the water, bridge, stones, the TREES, the BIRDBATH! No critique here!

Cake Club: This is really a wonderful cake. There are SO many great details to learn from. Grape stems dipped in chocolate with green rice krispies - how cool is that! This is a hard one for me cause I will be using this cake as reference. You already know how you would change the towers so the only thing I might do is to add a few tufts of grass on the board here and there. Great job!!

Cake Club: Very nice cake! I love the colors and the river. The river is especially my favorite creation. If, I had to give some criticism the top border needs a little work. It’s a bit pudgy and not smooth. I am also not a fan of having plastic figures on cakes. It would have been nice to see some characters made out of sugar paste (creating your own take on the characters). For some reason plastic figures remind me of the 80’s, but overall very nice job.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I agree the top border is a little rough. I tend to spend a lot of time on details, then impatiently rush the final assembly. As to the plastic figures, you have no idea how it pains me to put store bought figures on any of my cakes! But I have been so cautioned---no, make that warned-- about selling copyrighted items. Disney corp. is particularly formidable. There is no way any longer that I would risk it. In fact, the next cake I'd like to have you all critique is a generic "Ariel" She really wanted Ariel, but settled for a red haired mermaid.

I particularly love the trees and river

I LOVE it. Would have made the turet windows smaller but can't think of another thing to gripe about. Great job.
