In album: first-birthday
This cake looked fine...until I moved it! :-( The arms are just icing and one side fell almost completely off! I fixed it for now but somehow this cake has to travel a whole hour tomorrow and I am just not sure if its going to make it. Its a large cake. The structure is sturdy but the icing is not so durable.

Elmo's never looked better...in cake form, at least...lol. You did an awesome job on this!! Looks very much like the real little red guy with the annoying voice that my toddler just loves....hehehe.

Well he looks just like a stuffed ELMO!!! Hope the 'ride' goes well, b/c he is just adorable!!! I'd bring extra icing w/me, just in case though!!! :)

He's absolutely brilliant!! Well done! How do you make the icing look like fur?
stylishbite 1/21/06 at 2:18am
Oh my goodness. How cute. I couldn't eat him. ;-D

He's adorable. Is doing the arms in fondant and re-cing an option? They'd stay put that way.

He looks perfect! I hope he makes the ride ok for you!

Not sure...he is leaning back this morning now...I guess he makes a nice picture but I don't think he is very practical. The worst is that I am not delivering...someone is picking him up! They might have a bad day, unfortunately. :-(

Cake is awesome!!! Don't worry all will go well.Maybe next time use cut styrofoam for arms and ice that.HTH

Thanks all! Next time will have to rethink my construction. I now have it sitting on an incline as the body is cracking backwards from the base. :-(

Great job!

He looks great, I hope he makes it.

What pans did you use to make him? He's wonderful! I have to make a 3d one for my niece in a few months.
Kitagrl 1/21/06 at 11:59am
He's big...its an 8" (3" tall), then a wonder mold cut down, then 3D ball pan...then used mini wonder molds cut for feet and a square pan torted and cut into blocks. I warn you its not too stable though! I did use dowels and skewers in it though.

He looks exactly like him!! I think you did an awesome job..he looks like a stuffed elmo. How did he hold up on the trip?
Kitagrl 1/26/06 at 10:48am
Only lost a bit of icing and had to be hand-stabilized over bumps, but the icing I sent fixed it right up. What a relief! Next time I'm delivering this one!
