College Graduation Cake

College Graduation Cake on Cake Central

This cake was for my older cousin who graduated from college. It was a vanilla sponge with custard and strawberries. The cake was covered in whipped cream and had some gumpaste flowers on it. The base of the hat was a small chocolate cake for my grandma who couldn't eat the strawberries in the rest of the cake!

thank you. The top piece for the hat is cardboard covered in tissue paper. I made the tassle from embroidery thread and stuck it on there with a ball of fondant.

The cake is beautiful. I like the colorful trimming you have on it and the borders are also pretty. What side cake is this? Cause I need to make a graduation cake for my newphew, which will be in June 2005. Also, is it a two layer cake? Thank you!

no actually i used a grout spreader. It is like a cake comb, but the cut outs look like a castle top. I bought it at a hardware store just for this purpose. It even has different size cutouts on each side but is a square! I liked it because it gave me a different look on the side, more 3-D i think

The cake is the largest square pan of the Wilton set (16"x16" i believe). There is 2 layers of the vanilla sponge cake and one layer of filling. Thank you all for the nice comments!
