Thanks! The lid is not attached. It is a cake board covered in fondant and then propped up on the cake. I put a couple of extra candies near the back to give it more height.
mscorliss: Thanks!i rolled out the fondant pretty thick, and made sure it was about 1/8 higher than the cake. I cut it to the measured height with a pizza cutter and that gives it the nice smooth finish on the edge.
mrs. planeflyer: I didn't cover the whole thing. I frosted the top flat with buttercream and then wrapped the pink fondant collar around the whole cake. I think I frosted the cake in a chocolate buttercream so it was brown like the chocolates.
Is the outside/wrap-around fondant supported by anything or attached directly onto the cake? I wondered if the top band of the fondant retains it's shape OK, without bending over or the sides bending in on the top? Lovely cake!
Thank you. It is not supported by anything. The fondant is a little thick and then wrapped around the cake. You can use a little something temporarily on top of the cake to support the edges until they become firm enough to stay in place. Also, don't make the lip too large. Just 1/2 inch or so will do. That will make it less likely to fold over on itself.

Did you cover the inside of the box (top of the cake and under the chocolates) with fondant?
