Thomas had two first birthay parties because one of his grandmas was going to be overseas for the actual event. This cake was for the party before his actual birthday and it's the first cake I'd made in nine years.

The design is from the 1997 Wilton yearbook. I didn't use fondant because my husband dislikes its taste. The "fireworks" are tip 13 stars on florist wire inserted into flower spikes.
