This is a mini practice cake. It is a three inch cake. I wanted to try my hand at using my leaf press again, only this time, chalk the leaves as I went down the cake. It took 15 small leaves per row, and I did the top two rows in white. I chalked the second row ever so slightly, and then colored my fondant a little darker as I went down on the rows. Thanks for looking!

Thank you everyone. It was such a fun cake to make. I had just purchased that tiny little cake stand the day before and HAD to have a cake to sit on it. lol!

@ KayMc The leaf press or plunger is by PME Rose leaf plunger and veiner. Comes in tthree sizes in the package and I used the smallest one..

Are the leaves airbrushed? I love this! Great idea!!
LindaWolff 7/18/11 at 11:36am
@cole10 The leaves were colored with 3 different shades of green (forest green) and then as I added the leaves, I darkened the chalks as I went down the cake. I actually used navy blue chalks (petal dust) mixed with my darkest green for the very last row.
LindaWolff 7/18/11 at 11:39am
@cole10 I didn't dust each leaf seperately. I cut out 15 per row, then dusted those 15 all at once and added a little rose here and there, then

stupid comment place! Then added a bit of rose dust on each one and added those 15 before going onto the next row.

I love this design. How do you make the fondant stick to the sides of the cake so well. Do you just dampen each leaf with water?
LindaWolff 7/18/11 at 1:13pm
@JuliaAnna I have a small tub smaller than a butter tub that I keep in the frig with water and everytime I have some white fondant scrap that I would normally throw out, I put it in this little tub so that I'll be ready for my next cake.My 'glue' is pretty thick and sticky.
