In community album: 2011 Flowers, Flowers, Flowers Cake Contest
Butter pound cake with lemon/orange filling. The  Rattan basket was made using 8, 9, 10 inch pans carved into shape and covered with fondant .  The weave was made by atttaching the basket spines and then adding strips to create the look, finishing with a  wash of diluted gel color mixed with vodka.  All flowers are gum paste. There are lilacs, tulips, jonquils, roses, viola, lily of the valley and pansies.

Flowers for Gran

Thank for all the wonderful comments. I just wanted to share that one really neat thin g about this cake is that most of the flowers are just layed on top of the baket making very easy to remove. IWhen they were removed for cutting I put them all in a real basket for "Gran" and she has them on her dining room table. A double prent for her. :wink:

This is such an amazing cake. If I did not know I was on a cake site, I would think it were from a florist!! My grandmother would have been ecsatic to have seen this as she was a florist!

Love the basket. My first try at a basket just slide off the cake.Gues the fondant was too heavy. Ended up using an impression. Congrats

I am blown away by your cake. I knew the flowers had to be edible but I thought the basket was real. I really think you should have won. The wedding cakes were pretty but wedding cakes are common, your is super uncommon
