The design for this cake was inspired by architectural details in the Salt Lake City and County building, where the wedding reception was held. The white tiers are marble cake with apricot filling and covered in buttercream. The other tiers are dummy tiers covered in fabric that add height and effect. The rest of the details are fondant pieces. The curled pieces mimic wrought iron railing found throughout the balconies of the building. Fondant medallions were bronzed with luster dust and embossed with the initial of the couple's last name, except for one medallion which was dusted red and embossed with a 'U' since the groom was a former football player at the University of Utah.
