Golden Wedding Cake

This is a heavy fruit cake, with marzipan, and fondant. The inspiration was a cake from Kerry Vincent's "Romantic Wedding Cakes". But, as this was a Golden Wedding, I adapted it a bit, to introduce the gold. I used realistic looking fondant roses too, instead of the "satin roses". It was hard work but so rewarding! I was very pleased with it.

Very pretty. What is the color of your main fondant? Is that Ivory? My mom would love this!

Yes, the cakes (5 tiers) were covered with ivory (with a dash of golden yellow) fondant. There is a picture of the complete cake in my photos too.

Oh I know, I am not being critical, I even think you did a great job..I'm sorry if that offends you. I never thought mentioning it again is offensive. I apologize.

beautiful cake.......may I made a suggestion if you group the roses together before they dry it's easier to get a closely bunch bouquet........you're cake is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen by the way.........great job on it!!!!

talk about gorgeous...........(hopefully it didn't steal too much attention away from the bride.....heheheheh)

Thank you all! It was hard work, but worth it... just to see the look on the Bride's face! And the Groom... he was so interested in the mechanics of it... How I put it together, and how it was stabilised.

This cake is breath taking. May I ask you why you put marzipan on first and then fondant? Was that a request of the bride or was it for another reason?

leepat, the bride is from Mumbai, where traditionally, wedding cakes (for Catholic/Christian weddings) are heavy fruit, covered with marzipan and then royal icing. But all of us like the taste of homemade fondant more. Besides, it is much easier to cut the cake. Royal dries rock-hard! Thank you all for the compliments on my cake.
